Sanju Samson can’t catch a break. After a forgettable series against England where he scored just 35 runs in 5 matches, the batter has suffered a finger injury that will rule him out for the next five to six weeks. Samson hadn’t come out to keep wickets in the second innings, and Dhruv Jurel took the field instead.
Sanju Samson going to NCA, out for 5-6 weeks
The visuals showed that the medical team was working on Samson’s finger after he was dismissed by Mark Wood in the second over of the match that took place at the Wankhede Stadium. It didn’t seem that big a deal, but now the news is that he’ll be out for nearly one and a half months. He’ll travel to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, and only after proving his fitness will return to the nets.
“Samson has fractured his right index finger. It will take him five to six weeks before he can resume proper nets,” a BCCI source told PTI.

No Ranji Trophy for Samson
This also means that he won’t play for Kerala in the Ranji Trophy quarterfinal against Jammu and Kashmir. His home side may not be that big a trouble without Samson, as they played without the wicketkeeper batter in all but one match (a total of seven). But still, they’ll miss having him.
So there is no chance of him playing the Ranji Trophy quarter-final for Kerala in Pune from February 8-12,” said the source.
Won’t be back in action until IPL 2025
As for his return, there isn’t a chance that he will take the field a week before the Indian Premier League (IPL). He won’t return to the nets until early to middle of March. He missed joining the Rajasthan Royals (RR) training camp a little later because of it but is expected to be available for them from March 21, when the tournament starts.
“In all likelihood, his comeback will happen in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals,” he added.
