Fact check! Did Pathirana actually touch MS Dhoni’s feet? Truth is out

A recent video of Matheesha Pathirana touching MS Dhoni’s feet surfaced on social media
A couple of days ago, a video surfaced online that showed Matheesha Pathirana touching MS Dhoni's feet before going to bowl against GT in IPL 2024. However, the myth has been busted as a different angle of the same incident spills truth.

Recent social media buzz surrounding a video from the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) versus Gujarat Titans (GT) IPL 2024 match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai has sparked a fact-checking frenzy. The video in question suggested that Matheesha Pathirana touched MS Dhoni’s feet before bowling, leading to widespread appreciation from fans.

However, a closer examination of the footage reveals a different story. Contrary to the initial claims, a clear angle of the video has emerged, showing that Pathirana was not touching Dhoni’s feet as previously speculated.

Pathirana didn’t touch Dhoni’s feet, picked up bowling marker instead

Instead, the video captures Pathirana simply picking up his bowling marker while Dhoni stands nearby. The misleading angle of the viral video created the illusion that Pathirana was bending down to touch Dhoni’s feet, which was not the case.

In the context of the CSK vs GT IPL 2024 match, where CSK secured a convincing 63-run victory over the Gujarat Titans, Pathirana’s performance on the field was noteworthy. Bowling his full quota of four overs, Pathirana displayed economic bowling, ending with figures of 1-29. Notably, the Sri Lankan pacer event sent down a 150.6 kmph thunderbolt during his spell. He became the first bowler to surpass the 150 kmph speed in the IPL 2024.
