Excessive time-delay costs RR the match, penalized mid-match vs GT

Rajasthan Royals were fined for slow overrate in their IPL 2024 clash vs Gujarat Titans.

The Rajasthan Royals (RR) were left heartbroken after a thrilling encounter against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 24th match of IPL 2024 on Wednesday. Despite posting a challenging total of 196 on the board, RR’s slow over rate proved to be their undoing as GT snatched victory in the final over.

RR bowlers kept GT on their toes, picking up wickets at regular intervals. However, a late onslaught by the dangerous duo of Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia turned the tide. Their 38-run stand in just 14 balls brought GT back into the contest.

How slow the overrate cost RR the match vs. GT?

Here’s where things turned sour for RR. A slow over rate penalty meant they could only have four fielders outside the boundary in the final over. This tactical limitation proved costly as GT plundered 15 crucial runs to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

As per IPL rules, bowling sides are enforced to complete their quota of 20 overs in one hour and 30 minutes, barring any delays due to weather or any such unforeseen circumstances.

While Sanju Samson’s valiant knock and a gritty bowling performance from RR deserve credit, their slow over rate overshadowed their efforts. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining a brisk pace in T20 cricket.
