Ex-Pakistan cricketer wants Rizwan as T20I captain, and not Shaheen Afridi

PSL 2024: Mohammad Rizwan has been brilliant as Multan's captain, while Lahore Qalandars have lost all matches under Shaheen.

There’s a lot happening in Pakistan cricket at the moment, with long-standing management issues, and poor form of the team. But the PSL has shifted the attention from all that for now, where some players are really making the heads turn, some with their bowling, some with bowling, and a few with their captaincy.

Mohammad Rizwan has been one of those captains in the PSL, who has been mighty successful, and has led Multan Sultans to three wins in four matches already. Looking at this, former Pakistan batsman Basit Ali went on to say, that this is the right time for Rizwan to lead the national side as well.

The statement comes at a time when Shaheen Shah Afridi, recently took over the reigns of the T20 team, from Babar Azam. Speaking at a Pakistani show, ‘Har Lamha Purjosh’, Basit said, “I think this is the best time to name Rizwan captain, to raise the level of Pakistani cricket. I have some free advice for the newly-appointed PCB chairman, this is the right time to take this bold step and name him as captain.”

He did not stop there, and even was critical of Afridi’s captaincy, under whom the Pakistani side lost 1-4 against the Kiwis. “4-1 defeat from NZ, after Babar’s removal from captaincy, is a good enough reason that bold decisions must be made now, to prepare ahead of World Cup.”
