Former Chennai Super Kings bowler Sudeep Tyagi explained what made MS Dhoni a successful captain, both in IPL and for Team India. The pacer had played under Thala’s captaincy for both CSK and the Men in Blue as early as in 2009. While taking part in the Asian Legends League, Tyagi opened up on a wide range of topics, including his ex-IPL side CSK.
“That is why he is called a great mind”
Speaking to Sportskeeda, Tyagi revealed that the players would do whatever was told to them by Dhoni and vice-versa. He said that this was what made Thala a successful captain. He also stated that there was no such thing called favouritism with MSD, adding that he treated all players equally.
“Whatever he used to tell us, we would do. Even when we said something to him, he would do that. It shows why he is such a successful captain,” Tyagi said.

“I played for CSK and Team India under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. There is no such thing as favoritism. He treats everyone equally. He uses the player as per the situation. That’s the secret behind his success,” he added.
Tyagi noted that Dhoni had just one mantra for all players – give your 100% whenever playing on field. He said that his unwavering support to players and the team made CSK one of the most successful sides.
“Dhoni always has one mantra for everyone. That is give your 100% on the ground whenever you go on the field. He supported me a lot. He supported CSK a lot as well. That’s why CSK is the best franchise team,” he said.
