Duleep Trophy: North seal semi-final spot & Central Zone beat East Zone

Both North Zone and Central Zone seal thumping wins in the quarter-final of Duleep Trophy

Duleep Trophy : On the expected the lines, Central Zone beat East Zone by 170 runs on day four and sealed a semi-final spot. East Zone had an uphill mountain to climb on day four for an unlikely win. However, Central Zone bowlers quashed that dream by dismissing East Zone for 129.

Earlier, North Zone put on a dominating display to beat North East Zone by 511 runs.

North Zone dominated proceedings on Day 3 at Chinnaswamy Stadium. Having already secured a place in the semifinals, North Zone chose not to enforce the follow-on despite a massive 406-run lead.

The decision allowed their batsmen to capitalize on a demoralized North East team. Ankit Kumar (70), Prabhsimran Singh (59), Jayant Yadav (55*), and Ankit Kalsi (49) piled on the runs in the afternoon session, further extending North Zone’s advantage. Ankit Kumar fell just short of a century before the declaration, setting North East Zone a mammoth target of 666 runs.

Meanwhile, Central Zone’s spinners have given the team a strong chance to secure a win against East Zone.

Central Zone collapsed in their second innings on Day 3, setting a target of 300 for East Zone.

However, Saurabh Kumar was the star performer with the ball for the side. The spinner claimed four wickets for 33 runs which left East Zone reeling at 69/6 by stumps.

East Zone’s batsmen struggled once again on a challenging pitch. Captain Abhimanyu Easwaran, who was dismissed for a golden duck in the first innings, fell cheaply once again.

Opener Shantanu Mishra fought valiantly but was eventually dismissed by Saurabh, edging the ball to wicketkeeper Upendra Yadav. Central captain Shivam Mavi added to East Zone’s woes by removing Kumar Kushagra for a pair in the match, just moments before the close of play.
