It was a ‘Super Sunday’ at the IPL 2026, with some lower-placed teams making the IPL 2026 points table spicy. First, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), with Varun Chakaravarthy coming back to form. Then, the Gujarat Titans (GT) edged past the Punjab Kings (PBKS). It should’ve been a much more easy chase but the match till the last over, where Washington Sundar held his nerve to see GT through. Meanwhile, big news came out related to Rajasthan Royals (RR), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Rajasthan Royals ownership change
Rajasthan Royals (RR) have secured new owners after a proposed Kal Somani deal collapsed over funding and regulatory issues. Steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal and Serum Institute CEO Adar Poonawalla are leading the consortium that will take control. The franchise, bought for $67 million in 2008, is now valued at ₹15,660 crore or $1.65 billion. The Mittal family will hold 75 percent, Poonawalla 18 percent, and existing investors including Manoj Badale 7 percent. The deal covers RR plus Paarl Royals and Barbados Royals. Read more here.

RCB players on vacation mode
RCB have flown to the Maldives for a short mid-season break after playing two games in four days at April’s end. The defending IPL 2026 champions have six wins from nine matches and sit comfortably in the top two, making a playoff spot likely. Rajat Patidar’s side has followed a pattern of winning two games, losing one, then repeating it. The trip surfaced when Jacob Duffy posted from the islands, though RCB has not confirmed it officially. With their last game on April 30 and the next on May 7 against LSG, the week-long gap allows rest. Read more here.

Blow to CSK
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) all-rounder Ramakrishna Ghosh has been ruled out of IPL 2026 after sustaining a right foot fracture in his debut game. The Maharashtra player made his first appearance against Mumbai Indians at Chepauk on Saturday, taking 1 for 24 in three overs and dismissing Suryakumar Yadav. He also left the field injured during the match. CSK confirmed the injury will end his season. Ghosh was bought in the IPL 2025 mega auction but only played one game. His exit adds to CSK’s injury list, which already includes Ayush Mhatre and Khaleel Ahmed. Read more here.
