DRS, June 20: Team India’s playing XI remains a mystery, Tilak Varma ready for England stint

Welcome to our special segment, DRS or the Daily Review System. In this, InsideSport will provide you with the top cricket stories from a day before that you might have missed in the hustle and bustle of your busy life.

The India vs England series starts in a few hours from now, and naturally all the biggest cricketing developments in the day, came from the same. On one hand, England skipper Ben Stokes has made it clear that it won’t be easy to beat the visitors, even if they are without Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, and on the other Shubman Gill has exuded confidence of a superb show.

What really matters is that Sachin Tendulkar went on to predict a 3-1 series win for Team India. InsideSport takes a look at all the major developments on Thursday.

What will be India’s playing XI?

In the pre-match conference, Gill clarified that the decision on the playing XI wasn’t made, and that the management has readied a few combinations. The decision could be taken only after looking at the pitch. “We have one/two different combinations ready. Will have a look at the pitch and take the call.”

Stokes not worried about Jasprit Bumrah

It’s true that Bumrah is India’s biggest weapon in bowling, but then Ben Stokes has maintained that the team is prepping for all the bowlers. “Jasprit Bumrah is a fantastic bowler. He is going to be a threat but focusing on one individual is not what we are going to be doing,” he clarified.

Can India really win the England series?

There are questions galore over India’s ability to win the series in England, but then Tendulkar has dispelled all those doubts. Talking to ESPNCricinfo, the ex-batter claimed that the visitors would win the series 3-1. Even though batting could be a bit of an issue, India would consider bowling as their stronger suit, and would want all their bowlers to fire.

Team reaches London, series begins on June 28

Yes, the Indian women’s team will also be starting their limited-overs series soon in England, and have reached the country for the same. They are slated to play five T20Is and three ODIs, which is seen a preparatory series for 50-over World Cup this year.

Tilak Varma to play in England too

Yet another Indian player will be in England to play there. Batter Tilak Varma has signed as the overseas player in County Championship for Hampshire and will make his debut for the club on June 22, coinciding with the IND vs ENG first Test. He would be available for four matches there.

Angelo Mathews Bids Adieu

On day 3 of the first Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, batter Angelo Mathews walked out in the middle, perhaps for the one last time. He scored 39 runs, and upon his dismissal, was given a guard-of-honour by the opposition. As far as the match is concerned, the Lankans finished the day on 368/4, in reply of BAN’s 495.
