Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Umesh Yadav has batted for Gautam Gambhir, stating him as a leader who grants freedom, especially to youngsters. This comes amid the criticism Gambhir has been facing. His start as Team India’s head coach hasn’t bode well as of yet, with India losing 6 out of the last 8 Tests. Then came ex-KKR batter Manoj Tiwary’s scathing remarks on Gambhir, criticising him for taking all the credit after KKR won it’s maiden IPL title in 2012.
Umesh Yadav credits Gautam Gambhir
“So, I will always credit Gautam Gambhir’s captaincy. I made my IPL debut (talking about Delhi Daredevils’ stint). I never felt that he had ever put pressure on me. I remember when I made my debut, he gave the ball to me and said, Don’t listen to anyone. Bowl as per your liking. I played from 2014 to 2017 at KKR with him (Gambhir).” Umesh Yadav exclusively to InsideSport.
Umesh Yadav, who has 144 IPL wickets to his name, landed Gambhir’s leadership as a captain. He also shared a moment on his KKR debut in the IPL under Gambhir’s captaincy in 2014, where the current Indian team head coach asked Umesh to bowl as per his plan and not to think much about pressure. Umesh’s incredible years came under Gambhir’s captaincy only, where he claimed 48 wickets for KKR from 2014 to 2017.
This is a fresh development for Gambhir, who came under scrutiny. Manoj Tiwary, who hit the winning runs in the IPL 2012 Final, slammed Gambhir that he takes ‘PR’ support and takes all the credit. However, players who have played under Gambhir, including Harshit Rana and Nitish Rana came for Gambhir’s supoort.
