Delhi Capitals’ Radha Yadav added to India’s squad for England tour as injury replacement

Delhi Capitals’ Radha Yadav added to India’s squad for England tour as injury replacement

Harmanpreet Kaur and Co will play 5 T20Is and 3 ODIs against England starting on June 28.

Radha Yadav has been drafted into the Indian women’s cricket team for the upcoming England tour as a replacement for the injured Shuchi Upadhyay. The left-arm spinner from Delhi Capitals returns to the national setup for the five-match T20I and three-match ODI series, starting June 28 in Nottingham.

Why is Radha Yadhav added to India’s squad?

Shuchi, 20, who made her ODI debut during the recent tri-series in Sri Lanka, has been ruled out due to a left shin injury sustained during the pre-tour camp at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Her injury comes as a blow, especially after her promising start at the international level. The BCCI confirmed the development via a media release on Thursday, June 12.

In her place comes the experienced Radha Yadav, a familiar name in India’s white-ball setup. Although she was left out of the original squad, she adds depth to the spin department alongside Deepti Sharma and Sneh Rana. Radha is yet to play an international game so far this year, but in her last appearance for the Women in Blue, she took a four-wicket haul against the West Indies.

Radha, who last played for India in early 2024, will be keen to make her mark on the tour as India gear up for a challenging away series. The T20I series kicks off at Trent Bridge, followed by matches at Bristol, The Oval, Manchester and Birmingham. The ODI leg will be played at Southampton, Lord’s, and Chester-le-Street.
