In an utmost poor display with the bat, ball and in the field, Ashleigh Gardener’s team was outclassed in every department by Harmanpreet Kaur‘s Mumbai Indians, as the latter posted a 47-run win in the WPL 2025 Eliminator on Thursday. That meant, MI booked their berth in the final for the second time, against DC, in a repeat of the title clash from 2023.
MI Trounce GG in WPL 2025 Eliminator
Chasing a massive 214, highest-ever score in WPL knockout, GG just kept crumbling under pressure at all crucial junctures. There was lack of coordination between the batters, as the team witnessed four poor run-outs. It all started with Beth Mooney’s run out for 6, followed by her opening partner Danielle Gibson for 34, Harleen Deol for 8, and Kashvee Gautam for 4.
Dropped Catches, 4 Run-outs Prove Costly
While bowling/fielding, GG maintained that consistency, as they went on to drop four catches in the field, and then topped them with close to a dozen mis-fields. In the second over of the match, Beth Mooney dropped Hayley Matthews, who later went on to score 77 from 50. The Caribbean girl was handed another lifeline in the 15th over, and this time Ash Gardener was the culprit.
Third on the “drop list” was Harmanpreet Kaur, who scored a whirlwind 36 from 12 deliveries. She was given a reprieve by Priya Mishra, followed by a dropped catch of Nat Sciver-Brunt, by Tanuja Kanwar. All that, and of course MIs effort was enough to take Harman’s team to the final.
Harmanpreet Kaur, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Hayley Stars for MI
Talking about MI’s performances, there were quite a few players who stepped up in the crunch game. Hayley, of course scored 77 from 50, and so did Nat Sciver in 41 deliveries. Harmanpreet was brilliant with her 36 from 12, which lit up the Barbourne Stadium in Mumbai.
On bowling front, MI bowlers were good too. Yes, GG batters under-performed, but credit to Amelia Kerr, who returned with figures of 2/28. Hayley was good with 2/31, with her off-spinners. All-in-all, it was a memorable performance from MI, also in front of members of IPL’s MI team — Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma and Keiron Pollard, who were seen sporting the MI women’s jersey.
