Deepak Chahar gets Indian squad call for remainder of IND vs AUS T20 series

Pace all-rounder Deepak Chahar has been added to the Indian squad in the ongoing IND vs AUS T20 series.

All-rounder Deepak Chahar has made a return to the Indian side after a decent haul. To note, Deepak Chahar will replace Mukesh Kumar for the remainder of the IND vs AUS T20 series as the latter has left the Indian camp due to his wedding. Meanwhile, the third IND vs AUS T20 match is being played at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on November 28 (Tuesday).

“Fast bowler Mukesh Kumar made a request to BCCI to be released from India’s squad ahead of the third T20I against Australia in Guwahati. Mukesh is getting married and has been granted leave for the duration of his wedding festivities. He will join the squad ahead of the 4th T20I in Raipur. Pacer Deepak Chahar has been added to India’s squad for the remainder of the series,” BCCI wrote on their ‘X’ handle.

Speaking more on Deepak Chahar, the 31-year-old played his last T20I match way back in October 2022. The pace all-rounder made a return in the last IPL edition. However, he could not play the full tournament and was ruled out of the IPL. With the T20 World Cup coming up, Chahar will look to make an impact in the IND vs AUS T20Is and try to cement his place in the Indian camp.

Speaking about Chahar’s T20I numbers, he has played 24 matches and scalped 29 wickets at a decent economy rate of 8.17. Chahar also has a five-wicket haul to his name in the 20-over format. With the bat, Chahar has amassed 53 runs at a strike rate of 203.85.

Despite being plagued with injuries, Deepak Chahar’s IPL franchise CSK retained the pace all-rounder ahead of the IPL 2024. Chahar has much better numbers in IPL as compared to the international arena. In 73 games, he has scalped 72 wickets at an economy rate of 7.93. With the bat, Chahar has amassed 80 runs with 39 being his highest score.
