DC vs KKR: Phil Salt finally heads back after getting two lifelines

Phil Salt had an interesting stay at the crease during the DC vs KKR IPL 2024 match. He gave enough chances to the hosts but DC fielders shelled out twice before finally seeing his back in the fifth over.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) continued their rampage in powerplay overs as they bludgeoned the Delhi Capitals (DC) bowlers early on in Match 16 of IPL 2024. While Sunil Narine did the bulk of the scoring, his opening partner Phil Salt had an interesting stay at the crease.

Things didn’t start well for the Capitals, as Rishabh Pant dropped Phil Salt’s catch on the very first ball. After being put to bowl first, Khaleel Ahmed moved one away to the KKR opener, Salt, who thick-edged one to the keeper.

Pant, however, was caught off guard as his palms only guided the ball to the boundary. While it wasn’t an easy grab, it certainly felt like Pant could’ve taken it. Interestingly, the standing umpire gave it ‘byes’ but replays showed that it came off the bat.

Salt got his second lifeline when he pulled one off Anrich Nortje. The ball went straight to David Warner, who was standing at deep square leg. However, the Australian maestro dropped the chance as they tried to reverse cup it and shelled it.

Salt failed to make most of his chances

While the Capitals did their best to keep Salt at the crease, the Englishman failed to make his reprieves count. Both Pant and Warner heaved a sign of relief when Tristan Stubbs finally caught Salt for 18(12).

Following Warner’s drop in the fifth over, Salt once again flied one in the air. This time, however, Stubbs backpedaled from mid-off and got hold of the ball to send Salt packing.

While Salt couldn’t make it big, Sunil Narine wreaked hacov with his breathtaking batting. He got his fifty in only 21 balls as KKR score read 112/1 after only eight overs.
