The wait is finally going to be over, as Delhi Capitals will reveal their captain for the IPL 2025 season on March 14 at 9:30 AM. As per different reports, Axar Patel, India’s new T20I vice-captain has been assigned the job, after KL Rahul declined the offer. Though an official announcement by the franchise is yet to come, it is just a mere formality.
Axar Patel Set to Become DC Captain?
Axar Patel, the all-rounder has been with DC since 2019 and has played a huge role in their success in the recent years. Last year, he had stellar performances with the bat and the ball. In 14 matches, he scored 235 runs at an average of 29.37, including two fifties. On the other hand, he had 11 wickets at an economy of only 7.65.
Obvious Choice After KL Rahul Declines
Earlier, a source had told IANS, “Yes, Axar Patel is likely to be named as Delhi Capitals skipper for IPL 2025. The franchise had asked for KL Rahul to be the team’s captain, but he very much wishes to contribute to the side as a player in the upcoming tournament.”
Axar was retained for a massive 16.50 crore by DC, along with Kuldeep Yadav (13.25 cr), Tristan Stubbs (10 cr), and Abhishek Porel (4 cr). At the IPL Auction, they made some big purchases in the form of Rahul (14 Cr), and Mitchell Starc at 11.75 cr.
