IPL 2023 Auction: Areas to be targeted by Delhi Capitals
Backup Wicketkeeper
After releasing Tim Seifert and KS Bharat ahead of the IPL 2023 auction, the Capitals will be targeting an attacking wicketkeeper batsman to back up Rishabh Pant. Due to limited purse amount left the franchise could look for a domestic player as Pant’s backup.
Spin bowler and bowling allrounder
Kuldeep Yadav had a great IPL 2022 season, but there will be questions about him consistently delivering similar performance like he did last season. The Capitals will be targeting a spin bowler who can get them wickets even if Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav have a day to forget. Having traded Shardul Thakur to KKR, DC also needs a reliable bowling all-rounder and for that they would place their chip on domestic players. Another factor the team needs to address is enough cover for the season if ther is any injury to the player.

Players likely to be targeted by Delhi Capitals during the auction
Adil Rashid
The England leg spinner has made himself available for this years auction. Rashid had a great year winning T20 World Cup with England where he put amazing performance. With Delhi Capitals not having leg spinner in the squad, he could be a welcome addition to the setup.
Rilee Rossouw
Given Mitchell Marsh’s injury record, the Capitals will look for a player who can stay fit for the season and can also get runs on consistent basis. South Africa’s Rilee Rossow will be a good option to bank on looking by his recent form. He became the first South African player to hit a century in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He will be a great addition to the Delhi Capitals squad and his experience complement captain Rishabh Pant in the middle order.
Phil Salt
England Salt was in sublime form in domestic cricket earlier this year. He slammed 390 runs in 14 innings of the T20 Blast for Sussex. Then, the top-order batter hit 353 runs for Manchester Originals and emerged as the second-highest run-scorer in the Hundred. He would be a great backup for Rishabh Pant in the wicketkeeping department.

IPL Auction 2023 – Key details
- The auction is scheduled for December 23 in Kochi.
- The purse value of all teams has been increased by 5 crores, making a total of INR 95 crores for each team.
- Out of their total purse value, the franchises need to spend a minimum of 75% during the auction event.
- Earlier, from a list of 991 players, a total of 369 players from 10 teams were shortlisted. However, 36 additional players were added to the final list on request of the teams, making a total of 405 players to be presented at the IPL auction.
- Out of 405 players, 273 are Indian cricketers, and 132 are overseas, including four from associate nations.
- The total capped players are 119, uncapped players are 282 and 4 from associate nations.
- A maximum of 87 slots are now available, with up to 30 being allocated for overseas players.
- The auction will start at 14:30 IST.
