Dangerous stand’s capacity reduced at Kanpur Stadium but floodlights remain a concern for 2nd Test

Around 40% of the tickets in Balcony C will be sold for the Test match which starts tomorrow.

The Uttar Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) has conducted its final inspection of Balcony C at the Kanpur Stadium and deemed that not more than 2000 seats can be sold. The original capacity of the stand is 4800, but due to structural issues, it can’t hold such a large number of people at the same time. The report of such issues came yesterday, and now the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) has addressed them.

“PWD first inspected the ground on Tuesday, and they complained about the ceiling and also the iron barrier that is placed there. Today, with the final conclusion, they haven’t passed the stand, citing it as unsafe for spectators. However, with discussion, we are convinced that we will shorten the seat capacity and 2,000 seats will go on sale,” Kanpur Stadium venue director Sanjay Kapoor told IANS.

IND vs BAN: Floodlight issue

Green Park Stadium hasn’t hosted a match since 2021, and due to that, the facilities aren’t up to date, according to the UPCA. That is why there is one more issue. The floodlights aren’t up to the task either. Eight bulbs of the floodlight near the VIP pavilion remain dysfunctional, according to the report.

However, the floodlight issue isn’t new. In 2021, the India vs New Zealand 1st Test was drawn because the light wasn’t good for play and the floodlights weren’t effective enough. This certainly raises the question for the UPCA. The weather forecast for the India vs Bangladesh 2nd suggests that rain and clouds will persist for the first three days, you have to question what’ll happen if the floodlights aren’t working adequately.
