Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming has backed his side to take inspiration from Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s incredible comeback in IPL 2024 as CSK sit bottom of the points table after eight matches this season. With six games left and no margin for error, Fleming said the team remains hopeful of mounting a late surge, just like RCB did last year.

“We’re still hopeful of winning 6 out of 6, and some will giggle at that, but RCB set a blueprint for that the year before,” Fleming said ahead of CSK’s clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad. “So while there’s still a chance, we have one eye on making sure that we think the best players for this game coming up will play, but we’re also aware that if it doesn’t work out, that we’ve got to make the most of what has been a poor season.”
RCB had beaten CSK in the final league match last year to complete a stunning playoff qualification. Fleming admitted that Chennai are now in a similar spot but hinted that the situation could help lay the foundation for the future.
Fleming added that the remaining fixtures would not be taken lightly, regardless of the outcomes. “There won’t be a wasted game or an opportunity in the next few weeks, and the players know that as well. That creates opportunity and a bit of competition within,” he said.
“When that time comes, we will make sure there is no stone left unturned to get things right.”
