Ravindra & Gaikwad begin

Ruturaj Gaikwad has a new opening partner until Devon Conway recovers from injury. Rachin Ravindra had a good debut outing and he will continue as opener.

Shubman Gill

We will bowl first. That match was physical and mentally exhausting. Everyone is well rested and well settled with 10 teams playing. We get enough rest time between matches. It shows the character of the team, the way our bowlers bounced back against Mumbai. Playing with the same team.

Ruturaj Gaikwad

We were looking to bowl first, wicket is hard and looks similar to the first game. It was a rusty start but we came back well. Everyone showed good intent throughout the innings. Pathirana comes in for Theekshana.

Pathirana is back

CSK have brought in Matheesha Pathirana in place of Maheesh Theekshana as the pitch has a lot of grass. Shardul Thakur remains on the bench.

Toss Update

Shubman Gill fumbles while taking the call on the toss. He says: bat first and then changes to bowl first. So, CSK bat first in Chennai.

CSK vs RCB Pitch Report

Chennai will play on a different strip to the one they played against RCB. And as per Matthew Hayden, it is a good pitch. There is a lot of grass on the pitch but there are patches and that can help spinners with the older ball in the middle overs.

Wriddhiman Saha speaks

Playing any format for 17 years continuously is definitely tough. But I have always tried to stay fit. That has been my simple logic. I work on my fitness during the off-time. Also recovery is important. With age catching up, just trying to follow a similar routine. Playing IPL to IPL is not that easy, it’s high intensity. So I try to play every format in domestic cricket, also try to play club games. I like the atmosphere here, it’s outstanding.

Daryl Mitchell speaks

Was nice to play the first game in front of a full crowd, always an amazing experience. Coming from NZ and experiencing something like this is really special. Gujarat know how to win, so we need to make sure what we can control, need to do our job as a team and walk away with a win. Ruturaj is a good man, a world-class batter, he is pretty cool, calm and collective like MS. I played the last game here and a couple of games during the World Cup a few months ago. The characteristics of the pitch are very similar to what we are used to with CSK and I am sure it will continue.

Sai Sudharsan returns hom

The Chnneai lad Sai Sudharsan played one o fthe best innings of his career when he slammed 96 against CSK in Ahmedabad in IPL final last year. Now, he returns home against the local side CSK.

Lions arrive at the den

Matthew Wade unavailable

For Gujarat Titans, they will have to play without Matthew Wade again. Since playing the Sheffield Shield final, Wade hasn’t joined the GT squad.

Pathirana vs Mustafizur

Maheesh Pathirana is available for selection after being declared fit. However, he may have to spend time on bench as Mustafizur Rahman is likely to get the nod ahea dof him. Mustafizur scalped four wickets on hs CSK debut.

Stephen Fleming on combination

It’s still very early in the competition, there’s still combinations being worked out, still cohesion within the team that you’re working on, so it is nice to win the early game. But there’s a lot going on in regards to settling in and getting into the competition.

Shardul Thakur in for CSK?

After benching Shardul for Tushar Deshpande, CSK may want to have the Mumbai all-rounder back. Deshpande was expensive in the first outing against RCB and lacked confidence. Shardul can also provide batting depth.
