Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) dream of winning a record 6th IPL title may have taken a hit. Their skipper and highest run-scorer, Ruturaj Gaikwad, is at risk of missing the coming matches of the IPL 2024 season. The opener, who had scored an imperious 98* in the first inning of the CSK vs SRH match, seemed to have worsened his injury.
Injury to affect Ruturaj Gaikwad’s batting?
Ruturaj was already spotted fielding with heavy strapping on his right thumb. Fielding at long on, the opener ran for a catch, and in the process, it seems to have made his injury worse. He was seen wincing in pain, and CSK’s physiotherapist had to rush to the field to tend his thumb.
It looked like Ruturaj Gaikwad may have to walk back to the dugout. But the magic spray came to his rescue. Within minutes, he seemed alright. But instead of fielding at the hot spot region, he decided to move into the circle to prevent any further damage.
Given that he’s hurt his dominant hand, it may affect his batting. Having scored over 200 runs in the last match, if he indeed has trouble while batting, the chances of his team making the IPL 2024 playoffs are bleak. Luckily for CSK fans, in the post-match interview, Ruturaj Gaikwad cleared the air about his injury.
“Everything is good,” said the opener after winning the Player of the Match award. But the heavy strapping on his thumb says otherwise. One can’t be sure if Ruturaj is seriously hampered and playing through the pain or has no issues at all despite his right thumb being heavily bandaged even before he got hurt yesterday (April 28).
