Former Chennai Super Kings star Ambati Rayudu criticized the team’s poor fielding efforts in the game against Rajasthan Royals. Noticeably, there was just one dropped catch during RR’s innings, including a couple of stumbled catches. However, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad had once again blamed poor fielding along with lack of batting prowess in powerplay for their 6-run loss in Guwahati.
After Gaikwad, Rayudu blames fielding for CSK’s loss
Speaking on Kuhl Fans Match Centre Live on JoHotstar, Rayudu echoed on Gaikwad’s opinion over CSK’s fielding. The ex-CSK star claimed that the side’s efforts in the field in the first two games were really poor. He cited Parag’s catch to dismiss Shivam Dube to highlight how the opposition was better.
“CSK didn’t field well at all, except for maybe one or two stops in the infield. Rajasthan Royals were really up for it, and this shows that fielding is not just about having a young side—it’s about anticipation and awareness,” Rayudu claimed.
Further, Rayudu claimed that dropping easy catch chances and struggles in the outfiled were something CSK needed to immediately address.
“CSK have never been known for their fielding—maybe in their earlier years—but what they’ve done in their first two matches this season has been quite poor. Some of their mistakes were quite painful to watch,” Rayudu added.
What happened in RR vs CSK match?
CSK failed to chase down the 183-run target, marking the ninth game since 2021 where they haven’t been able to chase down a 175+ run target. Rahul Tripathi failed to fire at the top and had another poor outing. Rachin Raindra was dismissed for a duck, thanks to a fiery opening over from Archer.
Skipper Gaikwad (63) was the only star performer for the side in the tie in Guwahati. Jadeja (32) and Dhoni (11) were at the crease in the last over when CSK needed 21 runs. However, Dhoni was dismissed and the curtains were brought down on CSK’s run-chase.
