Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming admitted that the side had failed to read the wickets properly on Friday. RCB handed a 50-run thrashing to the five-time champions to pick up their 2nd win at Chepauk in the history of IPL. While CSK captain Gaikwad blamed poor batting in powerplay for the team’s loss, the coach had another perspective to the defeat.
CSK coach denies having home advantage in Chepauk
Speaking at the post-match press conference, the CSK coach claimed that the team enjoyed no home advantage at the MA Chidambaram stadium. He said that the team found it very hard to figure out the surface on Friday against RCB. He admitted that the team was outfoxed by misjudging the dew factor.
“We have been telling you for a number of years, there was no home advantage at Chepauk – We haven’t been able to read the wickets here in the last couple of years. So, it’s not new. We are trying to come to grips each day with what we get, and we don’t know – It’s so hard to read,” Fleming said.
What Gaikwad said after CSK’s defeat
Speaking at the post-match presentation, CSK captain Gaikwad blamed poor batting in powerplay and dropped catches for the team’s defeat. He claimed that CSK had lost “just by 50 runs”, offering a rather lame excuse for the defeat.
“Bad day in the fielding cost us really badly. When you’re chasing 20 runs extra on a wicket where you know it’s going to be a little bit sticky and it’s going to stop after the ball gets old, you have to bat slightly differently in the powerplay. Still happy that we didn’t lose by a big margin and at the end it was just 50 runs,” Gaikwad had said.
