Cricket is currently off for Shakib al Hasan, while Politics is On. The Bangladeshi skipper is all set to contest for his country’s 12th Parliamentary elections. Skakib is ready to follow the route of former skipper Mashrafe Mortaza who earlier contested in the elections and is now a Member of the Parliament.

Shakib al Hasan has been snubbed from IPL 2024. Kolkata Knight Riders have released both Shakib and Litton Das on IPL 2024 retention day. Moreover, the star all-rounder is injured and there is no fixed timeframe set for his recovery. Therefore, under these circumstances, Shakib has decided to try his hand in politics.

Shakib was injured in the ODI World Cup where he received a finger injury. The Bangladesh Cricket Team captain is set to contest the elections, standing from his home constituency, i.e Magura-1 constituency.

Shakib will no longer be the captain of the ODI squad, as he decided earlier during the World Cup. He however will continue to captain his side in the shortest format of the game. And with the T20 World Cup fast approaching it will be his job to concentrate on T20 cricket.

But with the IPL snub, Shakib will now play in the Pakistan Cricket League (PSL). Shakib is the only Bangladeshi player (out of 28 players) to be placed in the Platinum category which is the highest-ever category in PSL. The price of the Platinum category is deemed to be at US$ 1.30 lakh.

Shakib will hope to be fit as he will also compete in the Bangladesh Premier League. But with BPL and PSL clashing, it can be understood that Shakib will miss a few of the opening games in PSL. The PSL draft is set to be released on 14th December 2023.
