ICC set to present at IOC meet in 2023
The IOC meeting is set to be hosted by Mumbai in 2023 with nine other sports also presenting a bid for their inclusion. The ICC will be one of those nine bidders and will present in front of the IOC as the Los Angeles Olympics are just six years away from now.
In preparation for this, according to sources, the ICC – which has had a $3 million budget for the bid and tasked communications firm Burson Cohn & Wolfe with establishing a strong PR campaign.
According to information, cricket will be competing with eight other disciplines and one of them is break-dancing (World DanceSport Federation). Baseball/softball (WBSC), flag football (IFAF), lacrosse (World Lacrosse), karate (WKF), kickboxing (WAKO), squash (WSF) and motorsport (FIA) are the other federations invited.
“Nine disciplines are on the shortlist of international federations invited to submit RFI (Request for Information) proposals for the LA28 Olympic sport programme review,” said an ICC official.
Olympics rules could be barrier for Cricket
An IOC spokesperson in the meanwhile spoke about the LA Olympics limitations and said, “Beyond the initial 28 sports, the organizing committee for the LA28 Games has the opportunity, but not an obligation, to propose additional new sports for inclusion in the LA28 Olympic program.
“In the coming months, LA28 and the IOC will work with international federations to review disciplines with the evaluation criteria.
The criteria will also aid in the evaluation of potential new sports for the LA28 Olympic Games.”
If Cricket has to be part of the games, they will have to ensure they do not cross the maximum limitations of 10, 5000 athletes at the games. With 28 sports confirmed for the LA Olympics, any sport that is added now is not an obligation but a choice for the host city.

ICC Working on strong Associate relationship to increase the popularity of cricket
