IPL 2023: Dhoni to play in IPL 2024?
Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina retired from IPL last season. He is currently playing for India Maharajas in Legends League Cricket (LLC) 2023. During an interview after the match against the World Giants, Raina revealed that Dhoni’s availability will depend on his form and fitness in IPL 2023.
“Agle saal ho sakta hai ki Dhoni fir IPL khelein. Unka form achcha lag raha hai, batting achcha kar rahe hain. It all depends ke kaisa khelta hai this season. Kaafi challenging hoga, ek saal se tournament nahi khelein hai wo,” said Raina.
During the interview, Raina also said that he often speaks to Dhoni over the phone. “Dhoni has been training hard in Chennai, as you can see in some of his recent videos as well,” said the former southpaw.
Evidently, Suresh Raina last featured in the IPL during the 2021 season, which CSK went on to win. This was the fourth trophy for the CSK under the captainship of MS Dhoni. Now, after taking retirement from all forms of cricket, Raina is featuring in LLC 2023.
In contrast to Raina, Dhoni is not yet eligible to participate in the Legends League Cricket. The CSK captain has not yet stopped playing in all levels of Indian cricket. According to BCCI regulations, a player must entirely give up playing Indian cricket in order to be eligible to compete in other competitions. And IPL is a part of Indian cricket.
MSD has played 234 IPL games till date. He has scored 4978 runs at an average of 39.2 and a strike rate of 135.2 in. Dhoni has 24 fifty-plus scores to his name. In IPL 2022, Dhoni scored 232 runs in 14 games, but CSK was unable to advance to the Playoffs stage.
