India Playing XI vs SL: Bumrah, Kohli return, Washington plays Asia Cup final

India will wait for scan reports on Axar Patel and fitness report on Shreyas Iyer before making a final call on the Playing XI vs Sri Lanka on Sunday. At the moment, both are doubtful.

After a narrow defeat to Bangladesh in the inconsequential Super 4 clash, India take on Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final in Colombo. Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are back in India Playing XI vs SL. Shreyas Iyer is still out while Washington Sundar comes in for injured Axar Patel. Washington was flown in from Bengaluru for the IND vs SL final.

Hence, India have recalled the original XI that beat Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super 4 stage, barring Axar Patel.

Axar Patel suffered a wrist injury in the last game. India Cricket Team has called up Washington Sundar as a cover. With the spin likely to assist spinners as the match progresses, India have added Washington in place of Shardul Thakur.

IND vs SL: What to expect?

  • After a sensational century against Bangladesh, Shubman Gill will open with Rohit Sharma.
  • Virat Kohli, who missed the last game due to workload management, will return.
  • The former India captain had an extended nets session during the IND vs BAN match at the R Premadasa Stadium.
  • KL Rahul, who has returned to the setup and is in form, will be India’s designated wicketkeeper-batter.
  • Hardik Pandya will slot right in at No 6 with Ravindra Jadeja at No 7.
  • In bowling department, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj have both returned to India Playing XI vs SL. Kuldeep Yadav, who was rested, has also made a comeback.

Ishan Kishan vs Shreyas Iyer

With Shreyas Iyer still unfit, Ishan Kishan keeps his place. Iyer returned from injury only to suffer another injury. He missed the last three games due to back spasms. While Iyer did return to practice, he remains unfit to play the IND vs SL Asia Cup final.

Axar Patel or Shardul Thakur?

  • With Axar Patel ruled out, India have called up Washington Sundar. He is the off-spinner India have been missing.
  • Axar suffered a wrist injury following a throw by a Bangladeshi fielder.
  • Shardul Thakur also misses out as the pitch aids spinners. Washington plays as a third spinner and brings in a different dimension with off-spin against Sri Lanka’s left-handers.
