Asia Cup 2023: PCB Chief To Meet ACC and ICC Officials

The PCB Chief Najam Sethi is set to meet the ACC and ICC officials in Dubai regarding Pakistan’s Asia Cup hosting right. According to a report of PTI, Najam Sethi is expected to request a written guarantee from Jay Shah regarding the Indian team’s participation in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan before committing to the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 in India.

It is worth noting that PCB Chief has earlier indicated that Pakistan will not play in Asia Cup 2023 if the tournament is relocated from their nation. This move comes in light of the ongoing tensions between the two neighboring countries, which has also affected their cricketing ties.

The 16th edition of the Asia Cup was supposed to be played in Pakistan in September this year. While India will host the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 from October 5. The PCB has been adamant about hosting the Asia Cup 2023 in Pakistan and has previously stated that it is ready to provide foolproof security to all participating teams. However, the BCCI’s decision has left the PCB in a difficult situation, and they are now exploring alternative options for hosting the tournament.

The ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan have long affected their bilateral cricketing ties. The last time India toured Pakistan for a cricket series was way back in 2007. India and Pakistan only play against each other in ICC events, with their last encounter being in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

As the cricketing world waits with bated breath for the outcome of Sethi’s meeting with the ACC and ICC officials, it is clear that the future of cricketing ties between India and Pakistan remains uncertain.
