Former Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star batter AB de Villiers has an interesting thought on the potential Hardik Pandya trade deal. He believes there will be a change in guard at Mumbai Indians with Hardik Pandya coming in and it will be the five-time IPL-winning captain Rohit Sharma who will hand over the captaincy to Hardik in IPL 2024.

Rohit Sharma has been leading Mumbai Indians since 2013 and has been joint most successful captain along with MS Dhoni. But Hardik Pandya too has led Gujarat Titans to debut season and to the final in last time out.

He loved playing in Wankhede: ABD on Pandya

The former South African skipper stated that after winning the IPL with Gujarat Titans, Hardik felt that it was time to move on to a different challenge.

I don’t know if its going to cause them a bit of a headache on who’s going to be the captain. I mean, Rohit is the captain and loves leading from the front. Its exciting as he (Hardik) was a big player for Mumbai Indians for many years. He loved playing at the Wankhede Stadium. He won the trophy with Gujarat Titans and then also went to the final (of the 2023 season),” said AB de Villiers on his YouTube channel.

“He probably feels his time there is done and now head back to Mumbai Indians. I have a funny feeling Rohit is going to let him (Hardik) captain and take the reins, as Rohit carries a lot of pressure of captaining team India. Maybe that is going to be the move, but let’s see what happens,” added AB De Villiers.
