Champions Trophy final: Wrong to assume Rohit & Co. favorites, New Zealand brings out best vs India

Champions Trophy final: Even though India beat New Zealand in the group stages, but the summit clash will be a high pressure one.

Will India win the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand on Sunday? Rohit Sharma‘s team is searching for their first ODI title since 2013, and their summit clash, couldn’t have met with a tougher opponent — the Kiwis. Not only this team has a knack of producing some great individual performances in important matches, but as a unit, they just do the job, day in and day out.

Who Will Win India vs New Zealand, Champions Trophy Final?

Even though, undoubtedly, India is the best team on paper in the tournament, but then Mitchell Santner’s team can’t be taken so lightly. Each one of them, who played in the semis vs South Africa, have a worrisome record against India, or have been in brilliant form in the Champions Trophy 2025. So, we might just have a problem there.

Opener Rachin Ravindra is coming into the match on the back of two tons — against Bangladesh and then South Africa, and is one of the best players in the tournament. In his three matches against India, he has smashed a 75 already, and could fancy batting against the Indian pacers. Then Kane Williamson is another giant against India. In the 30 ODIs he has played, he has scored 1228 runs at an average of 45, along with one century and 11 fifties.

Daryll Mitchell, Tom Latham Threatening vs IND

As for Daryll Mitchell, he also has a superlative record against the finalists. In 9 matches he has scored 326 runs at an average of 46, that also includes two tons. He is an exceptional player of spin, and uses his feet well against the slower-bowlers. Moving on quickly to Tom Latham, he is just as good. In the 26 matches against Virat Kohli’s India, he has scored 890 runs at an average of 46.84. That comes with two tons and five fifties too.

Glenn Phillips is yet to do anything remarkable against the Indians so far, in the nine matches he has played, but tell that to Virat Kohli. The latter was left in a state of shock, and he plucked a catch at point, out of no where. He is that sort of a player, who can chip in with the bat in hand, with the ball, and is undoubtedly the best fielder in the world, something in the Jonty Rhodes mould.

Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson Could Wreak Havoc

Even their all-rounder, Michael Bracewell has a 140 to his name against India. Courtesy of that, he averages over 47, which only goes on to show, he can bring his A game against us. Skipper Mitchell Santner is the most tenacious player ever. Despite his limitations, he contributes with the bat and the ball. In 24 matches he has only 15 wicket vs India, but then his economy is under 5, and can trouble Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Let’s talk about the pace spearhead Matt Henry. In 11 matches with the opponents, he has 21 wickets. Then Kyle Jamieson has four wickets in three matches, and his economy has been only 4.50. These numbers should be enough for India to make them worry, and their record against the Kiwis in the ICC events, isn’t just the best. So, Rohit’s men are favorites to win the title, would be wrong to say or assume.
