Captain Shubman Gill joins Team India in Harare for 5-match T20I series against Zimbabwe

Captain Shubman Gill joins Team India in Harare for 5-match T20I series against Zimbabwe

Gill has been playing constantly since the South Africa Test series in December last year and took a 3-week vacation after getting released for India's T20 World Cup squad last month.

Indian captain Shubman Gill has joined his team in Harare. The opener, who was part of the reserves for the T20 World Cup, was spending his time off in America after being released from the squad by the Indian management. Team India had arrived with interim head coach VVS Laxman earlier. With five days left before the India vs Zimbabwe T20I series starts, Shubman has reached Harare and is expected to begin his preparations tomorrow.

Earlier today, three changes were made to India’s 15-man squad, with Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, and Yashasvi Jaiswal being excluded from the team and Sai Sudarshan, Jitesh Sharma, and Harshit Rana being named as their replacements. The reason behind the sudden change isn’t certain.

But in likelihood, Dube, Jaiswal, and Samson were rested for the Zimbabwe tour as they were stuck in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl. Of course, another possibility is that all three will be given a chance later when India tour Sri Lanka for a six-match white-ball series.
