“Can’t sit down & cry”: Jasprit Bumrah unbothered by dropped catches, saves teammates off field too

Jasprit Bumrah wasn't in any mood to complain about the number of catches put down by Indian fielders in ENG vs IND 1st Test

India cricket team pacer Jasprot Bumrah could have easily picked up a five-wicket haul way earlier in ENG vs IND 1st Test if it wasn’t for dropped catches. Shubman Gill and co were miserable on the field, dropping at least 6 catches in the 1st innings in Leeds. However, Bumrah wasn’t in any mood to complain about it and in fact saved his teammates, this time off the field.

Bumrah in no mood to complain about dropped catches

Speaking at the press conference after Day 3, Bumrah stressed on the need to move forward and said that it was impossible to sit down and cry about dropped catches. He admitted that there were quite a few youngsters in the side who were new to the game and hence some leeway must be allowed.

“Yeah, just for a second. But you understand that you can’t really sit down and cry, isn’t it? You have to move forward with the game. So, what I look to do is not to take it too far in my head and try and quickly forget it because all of them are also new to the game,” Bumrah said.

Bumrah was robbed of at least a couple of wickets on Day 2, thanks to drop catches. Yashasvi Jaiswal first dropped Ben Duckett while fielding at gully and then dropped Ollie Pope while he was on 60 runs. Thanks to the southpaw’s costly mistake, Pope went on to score a century.

It wasn’t just Jaiswal who had a miserable day on the field, but it was the entire Indian unit. 6 catches were dropped by the visitors overall – three by Jaiswal, one by Jadeja, Pant and Sudharsan each.

Sometimes the ball is difficult to sight and nobody is dropping the catch purposely. Everybody is trying really hard. It does happen. So, I don’t want to create a scene or put more pressure on the fielder that I’m angry, I’m kicking the box or I’m doing something. It’s okay. It’s part and parcel of the game. Obviously, if it [catches] would have been taken earlier, that’s good, but people will learn from this experience,” Bumrah said.
