IPL 2026: RCB managed to finish top of the table after the league stages, on the basis of superior NRR.

RCB remained on 18 points after their final league match vs SRH on Friday. They lost the encounter by a massive 55 runs, but that did not deter them from finishing at the top spot in the IPL 2026 points table. In a chase of 256, they needed to score 178, to get to that mark, which they did, with utmost ease.

What did RCB need to do to qualify in top 2?

After SRH went to bat first, and set a massive target of 256, RCB’s first target was to get to 165, which would have guaranteed them the 2nd spot. And the second target was 178, to finish at the top. Eventually, they managed to score 200/5 in their stipulated 20 overs.

SRH vs RCB, As it happened

Even though the Uppal wicket in Hyderabad was expected to assist the bowlers, RCB bowled poorly to let SRH get off the hook. Abhishek Sharma was the aggressor-in-chief, who slammed 56 from 22 deliveries only. From there on, Ishan Kishan blasted 79 from 46, while Heinrich Klaasen scored 51 from 24, to cross the 250-run mark.

It was a rare bad day for Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who returned with figures of 0/51, while Hazlewood managed 0/55. In fact, none of the bowlers for RCB had economy under 12, that just tells the entire story. Come the chase, except for Venkatesh Iyer (44 from 19), none of the other batters showed intent to get to the target.

Virat Kohli fell cheaply for 15 off 11, while Devdutt Padikkal managed 21 from 14. Rajat Patidar top-scored for 59 from 36, but was relatively slow, when the boundaries were needed.
