Bumrah vs Australia clash at BGT 24/25 becomes India’s most viral Test series; has over 70% increase in viewership

Border-Gavaskar Series 2024-25 may not have ended in India’s favour, but the support the Test series received was incredible, and that’s the reason why it became the most-watched Test series!

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 provided full entertainment for cricket fans. We saw how India defeated Australia in the first Test match at Perth, but then it was all about Australia, who clinched the series with a 3-1 margin. Throughout the series, we also saw how people were glued to their televisions and didn’t miss a single game, whether it was the first or the last match.

As a result, TV viewership peaked, with recent reports indicating a 74% increase compared to the last edition of the series in Australia. The India-Australia rivalry, dubbed “The Toughest Rivalry” by the JioStar network, became the second most viewed Test series for India on TV, with a total of 192.5 million TV viewers, along with 52 billion minutes of watch time across broadcast and digital media. This shows how people showered their affection on these two cricketing nations fighting against each other.

Speaking about the success, Sanjog Gupta said, “We are proud to have institutionalised ‘The Toughest Rivalry’ as a unique descriptor of India-Australia matches. After the success of establishing ‘The Greatest Rivalry’ as the universally accepted nomenclature for India-Pakistan clashes, this was the next step in the ‘eventification’ of another key rivalry. The coverage of BGT 2024-25 also demonstrated our commitment to delivering world-class on-screen sporting experiences to millions of fans.

“From a brand-new design package to the advent of new cameras, we strived to provide a deeply immersive experience to sports fans. We are proud that our Hindi coverage garnered appreciation from the Indian diaspora across the world and are grateful to Cricket Australia for their trust and collaboration, which has been instrumental in bringing ‘The Toughest Rivalry’ to life in such a spectacular manner.”

India misses out on WTC final for the first time

That’s correct. This will be the first time India won’t be in the WTC final after having played in the last two finals, first against New Zealand and then against Australia. However, this time, things didn’t end well for them, primarily due to their first series loss at home in 12 years, which came against New Zealand. Following that, their series loss in Australia turned the tide.
