Blow for Gujarat Giants, Deandra Dottin ruled out of WPL 2025 Eliminator

Gujarat Giants suffered a last-minute blow ahead of the WPL 2025 Eliminator. Star all-rounder Deandra Dottin was ruled out after suffering an injury during warm-up, paving way for Danielle Gibson to debut.

In a major setback for the Gujarat Giants Women, star all-rounder Deandra Dottin has been ruled out of the make-or-break WPL 2025 Eliminator match against Mumbai Indians Women. The injury occurred during a warm-up session just prior to the match, forcing the Giants to make a last-minute adjustment to their lineup. England all-rounder Danielle Gibson was called up and was handed her WPL debut.

“Dani Gibson comes in for Deandra Dottin. It happened five minutes ago because of an injury. Really unfortunate for such a big game, but stoked for Danielle who makes her debut. It’s a pretty cool opportunity and hopefully, she can shine,” Gujarat Giants captain Ash Gardner said at the toss.

Major Setback for Gujarat Giants

With 142 runs and 9 wickets in 8 matches of WPL 2025, Deandra Dottin has been a crucial cog in Gujarat Giants’s first playoff appearance. Dottin is a powerful presence in the Gujarat Giants squad with her explosive batting prowess and impactful all-round capabilities. Dottin was key to securing the first-ever WPL final appearance for Gujarat Giants. However, her absence will hurt Gujarat as they take on Mumbai in the Eliminator.

Despite this disappointing news, the Gujarat Giants remain optimistic about their chances in the eliminator. Under the captaincy of Ashleigh Gardner, the team has shown significant improvement this season. Gardner expressed confidence in her squad, pointing to their recent performances and the positive momentum they’ve built over the campaign.

Coinciding with the lineup change, the Gujarat Giants won the toss and opted to bowl first, aiming to restrict the Mumbai Indians to a manageable total at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. The venue is renowned for its batting-friendly conditions. The team will face an uphill battle against a strong Mumbai lineup, but they are determined to prove their capabilities.

The absence of Dottin adds an extra layer of challenge for the Gujarat Giants, who are looking to avenge their previous losses against the Mumbai Indians and make their mark in the league. Key players such as Beth Mooney, Harleen Deol, and Ashleigh Gardner will be relied upon to step up.
