Gill has been making headlines recently after winning the ODI match between India and New Zealand held at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. He scored 208 from 149 balls, laced with 19 fours and nine sixes apart from 58 ones and 10 twos at a strike rate of 139.60. He became the fifth Indian Cricketer to score an ODI double ton and the youngest Indian Cricketer to surpass Ishan.

Now in ODI cricket Shubman Gill is the only batsman with 70+ average. Next to him is South Africa’s Van Der Dussen, who has an average of 69.31. Whereas modern-day legend Virat Kohli has an average of 57.79. Notably, there is a lot of difference between the number of matches played by these three players. Gill has played only 20 matches, Dussen has played 38 matches and Kohli has played 270 matches. Clearly, with these stats, Gill has a chance to become the only cricketer with 80+ average in the ODIs.

The right-handed batter, Gill has also been praised for his consistency. He has consistently scored runs for India. This was the reason why Indian selectors dropped double-centurion Ishan Kishan in his next ODI. Ishan Kishan struck a double ton in the 3rd ODI against Bangladesh last December. Gill replaced Kishan in the first ODI against SriLanka and since he has been performing very well.
