In a major development for IPL 2025. as the 18th year of the league is about to get underway, the BCCI will host special opening ceremonies across all the 13 venues for the tournament, as per Sportstar. Of course, the opening clash of IPL 2025 will take place in Eden Gardens, Kolkata, and the celebrations will start there too.
IPL 2025 to Kick Off on March 22
The opening ceremony is set to feature Bollywood superstars, on March 22. “We wanted to add more flavour to the tournament so that spectators from each and every venue can get a taste of the opening ceremony. For the cultural programmes in each venue, we are planning to create a line-up of national and local artists,” a well-placed source told Sportstar.
The opening ceremony in Kolkata would also be attended by ICC Chairman Jay Shah, along with other dignitaries. Plus, there are final discussions being held with other artists too, for the other 12 events at other venues. “The idea is to have a varied pool of Bollywood artists performing for all the programmes, and with limited time in between the innings, two to three artists could be accommodated for these events,” the source said.
13 Venues, 13 Opening Ceremonies
But then there are logistical issues to be dealt with as well. And the BCCI is working closing with the state factions, to get everything in order. “Since this is happening at such a scale for the first time, there are some logistical issues as well. So, the BCCI and State associations are working in tandem to ensure that the programmes are conducted smoothly without hampering the matches.”
The IPL 2025 will also be played at non-regular venues like Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, and Mullanpur too, which are second homes to teams like RR, SRH and PBKS, respectively.
