The International Cricket Council (ICC) has dismissed recent claims that India’s cricket board (BCCI) plans to remove Pakistan’s name from their jersey for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. An ICC official clarified that all teams must display the tournament’s official logo on their kits, including the name of the host country. “Every team has to put the tournament logo on their jerseys. It is a rule everyone must follow,” the ICC stated to Pakistani media.
Mandatory logo display
Indian media had reported that the BCCI might exclude Pakistan’s name from Team India’s jersey. However, the ICC emphasised that any team not displaying the logo properly would face strict consequences. In ICC events, it is common for all teams to have the host country’s name on their jerseys. This is part of the event’s branding, even if matches are held elsewhere.
PCB and political tension
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) dismissed these reports as baseless and confirmed that no board official had spoken to Indian media about this matter. This clarification from the ICC comes amid ongoing tensions between the PCB and BCCI, where cricket has become entangled in political issues. Earlier, the Indian government chose not to send its team to Pakistan for the tournament. As a result, the ICC decided that India would play its matches in Dubai, adopting a hybrid model for the event.
