BCCI SGM: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to ratify its new Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) policy at a Special General Meeting (SGM) scheduled to be held on May 27 in Ahmedabad. Notably, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Thursday sent a notice to BCCI and other sports bodies regarding the non-compliance of provisions under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) law. The move reportedly has also been made after former BCCI CEO Rahul Johri faced sexual harassment allegations in 2018. The BCCI had previously established a four-member Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) to address such matters, but the newly revised policy may include more members.

According to a report in PTI, a five-point agenda is specified in the notice which was circulated by the BCCI secretary’s office among its affiliates on Thursday. The agenda includes the formation of an Infrastructure Development and Subsidy Sub-Committee, guidelines for the appointment of physiotherapists and trainers in state teams, the establishment of a Working Group for the 2023 ODI World Cup, the creation of a committee for the Women’s Premier League, and the ratification of the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Policy.

Infrastructure upgrades priority for BCCI ahead of World Cup

The Working Group for the upcoming ODI World Cup, scheduled to take place in October-November 2023, will consist of the BCCI president, secretary, treasurer, acting CEO, and other senior officials.

Many of the venues identified for the ODI World Cup are in need of urgent renovations and are a priority for the board as they aim to provide an enjoyable atmosphere for cricket fans. The BCCI has already allocated funds for the infrastructure upgrades required at all the selected stadiums.

Additionally, the appointment of physiotherapists and trainers for the state units is another crucial aspect that the board will address. The board aims to associate NCA-certified support staff with domestic teams to ensure a uniform fitness module and injury management program.

The BCCI is also planning to form a committee for the Women’s Premier League to ensure that a dedicated window for the tournament is finalised.
