BCCI set to implement new points system in domestic cricket circuit, Apex body to look after well being of players

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to revamp the domestic cricket circuit from 2024-25 season. Jay Shah has spoken to the Apex Council to make some new changes. These include new points system and also looking after the well being of the players.

New Points System

The BCCI will be adopting some changes into the domestic circuit. There will be new points system based on the batting performances, as well as the bowling performances in the first innings. There are also talks about scrapping the toss in the U23 Col CK Nayudu Trophy.

“This includes awarding points for batting and bowling performances in the first innings, in addition to points for the first innings lead or outright win. A review will be conducted at the end of the season to assess the effectiveness of the new points system, with a decision on whether to implement it in the Ranji Trophy for the following season,” read the proposal.

In the U23 CK Nayudu trophy the visiting team will have the option to either bat or bowl first. Furthermore, a new points system will also be implemented.

Well Being of Players

The BCCI has made plans to look after the welfare of the players. Earlier Shardul Thakur had complained about the serious lack of resting options between matches. As a result, now the board will make sufficient changes in the domestic schedule so that the players get their much deserved recover and resting phase.
