Bangladesh have written to the ICC regarding their refusal to travel to India for the T20 World Cup 2026, citing security reasons.

Mumbai, January 9: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devajit Saikia met with Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru (CoE) head VVS Laxman, president Mithun Manhas, vice-president Rajeev Shukla, joint-secretary Prabhtej Bhatia, and selector Shiv Sundar Das.

The BCCI top brass discussed hiring technical personnel for the CoE, including the head of education and head of sports science, and streamlining India’s Under-19 and A tours.

“We assessed the vacancies at CoE and decided to go ahead with the recruitment process soon. There is an acute shortage of technical personnel worldwide, but we are trying to fill the positions at the earliest. We also talked about how the A tours need to be scheduled going forward. In certain situations, the A side and the senior team are touring together at the same time. We need to ensure that there is no overlap. A tour is an important supply line of cricketers,” Saikia told PTI.

No discussion on Bangladesh

Considering the tense situation between the BCCI and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in the aftermath of the release of Mustafizur Rahman for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 by Kolkata Knight Riders, Saikia was asked whether Bangladesh’s refusal to travel to India for the T20 World Cup 2026 was among the topics of discussion. Saikia clearly stated that no such conversations happened.

“The meeting was about CoE and other cricketing matters. It’s not our domain to talk about that (as the ICC has the final say on Bangladesh’s participation in the T20 World Cup),” the BCCI secretary said.
