BBL Draft: In order to keep up with Indian Premier League (IPL) and the monetary benefits it provides to foreign and marquee players, Big Bash League (BBL) and Cricket Australia (CA) have decided to increase salary caps and change their contracting rules so that more marquee players decide to play in the league. Each of the 8 Men’s BBL teams will now have to sign at least 6 players on minimum retainer value of 200,000 Australian dollars for the upcoming Season 13 under these new changes made. A addition list for marquee players who won’t be available to play at the start of the season due of injuries or prior playing commitments (national or other leagues) but will be available during the course of the season will also be made.

Cricket Australia on new BBL Draft
Cricket Australia on Wednesday said the “will ensure the competitions remain globally competitive and an attractive proposition for the world’s best T20 players.”
Many of the stars of international cricket, including veteran Australian opener David Warner, are currently involved in the Indian Premier League, the world’s richest domestic T20 competition.
That means more of Australia’s leading test cricketers could participate even if there’s schedule conflicts.
The men’s BBL, played in Australia from mid-December until early February, is competing to attract star players with an increasing number of T20 leagues around the world.
Minimum retainer value increase
Cricket Australia said the average retainers will increase more than 50% for the leading players in the men’s BBL in the 2023-24 season, with the top stars earning minimum retainers of AU$420,000 ($280,000).
In the women’s BBL, the minimum retainer will increase 30% and the top players can earn retainers of AU$110,000 ($74,000).
Franchises will be allowed to sign as many nationally-contracted players as they like inside the AU$3 million ($2 million) salary cap on their 18-man rosters, as well as a maximum of two on the marquee supplementary list who can be activated if they become available.
