Former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly has called for ‘good wickets’ at home as he believes the turning tracks are dropping India’s batting quality.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Ganguly questioned why there is a need for turning tracks when India has the likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Mukesh Kumar as fast bowlers.
“When I see [Jasprit] Bumrah [Mohammed] Shami [Mohammed] Siraj, Mukesh [Kumar] bowl, I wonder why do we need to prepare turning tracks in India. My conviction of playing on good wickets keeps getting stronger every game. They will get 20 wickets on any surface with [Ravichandran] Ashwin, [Ravindra] Jadeja, Kuldeep [Yadav] and Axar [Patel]. Batting quality dropping because of pitches in last 6 to 7 yrs at home. Good wickets are a must. India will still win over 5 days”, Ganguly posted on X.
Ganguly’s comment came after Jasprit Bumrah bowled a fiery spell on a flat deck on Day 2 of the IND vs ENG 2nd Test. The pacer picked up three wickets, including the wickets of Joe Root and Ollie Pope to push the visitors back.
