Despite removal from the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, the Bangladesh cricket team has secured a direct qualification for the 2028 edition of the tournament. After Bangladesh was ousted, the International Cricket Council (ICC) replaced them with Scotland.
The ICC has confirmed the 12 teams that will qualify for the event. As hosts, Australia and New Zealand don’t need to qualify. The teams that finish in the top 7 of the T20 World Cup 2026, excluding the hosts, will make it next. Lastly, the remaining 3 teams will qualify based on ICC team ranking.
Although the cutoff was March 9, the date of the T20 World Cup 2026 final, since the team ranked 10 or below won’t be playing any matches, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Ireland have also secured direct qualifications.
The remaining 8 spots will be decided by four different qualifiers: Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia-EAP. In the T20 World Cup 2026, Canada qualified from the Americas; Italy and the Netherlands from Europe; Namibia and Zimbabwe from Africa; and Nepal, Oman, and the UAE from Asia-EAP.
