After their poor exit from the Women’s World Cup 2025, chilling allegations have surfaced against the Bangladeshi skipper Nigar Sultana Joty. The side could manage only one win from seven encounters, and finished second last on the points table, and that could have been largely due to the mental space the team could have been in.
Serious Allegations Against Nigar Sultana Joty
As per a report in Bangladeshi daily Kaler Kantho, Jahanara Alam has allegedly accused Nigar Sultana of physically assaulting her teammates and the juniors, even during the World Cup. “This is nothing new. Joty beats up the juniors a lot,” Alam said. “Even during this World Cup, the juniors told me, ‘No, I won’t do this again. Then I’ll have to get slapped again.’ I heard from some people, ‘I got beaten up yesterday.’ Even during the Dubai tour, she called a junior into the room and slapped her.”
Physical Assault on Players During World Cup?
Alam hinted that it was because of such team environment, that she stepped away from the game. “Actually, I am not alone; everyone in the Bangladesh team is more or less a victim. Everyone’s suffering is different. Here, one or two people receive advanced facilities, and in some cases, only one person does,” Alam said.
Meanwhile, the BCB has outright rejected these claims. They termed the allegations as baseless and unfortunate. “The BCB categorically and strongly refutes these allegations, which are baseless, fabricated and devoid of any truth,” it said in a statement. “The Board finds it unfortunate that such derogatory and scandalous claims have been made at a time when the Bangladesh Women’s Team is showing commendable progress and unity on the international stage,” adding that it has “found no evidence to support any of the claims made.”
