Bangladesh suffers another jolt, Ebadot Hossain out of ODI World Cup 2023

Earlier, vice-captain Litton Das exit from the Asia Cup 2023 has given a severe blow to Bangladesh

A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official revealed on Wednesday that fast bowler Ebadot Hossain would miss the ODI World Cup 2023 due to a knee ailment.

Ebadot Hossain needs surgery on his knee, which means he is no longer eligible to play in the World Cup 2023.

Ebadot won’t be available for us during the World Cup, BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin said on Wednesday, according to Cricbuzz.

“It’s a major setback for us because he needs a knee procedure. We cannot consider him for the World Cup since he will undoubtedly need time to recover after the operation—at least three to four months,” he stated.

ODI World Cup 2023: Ebadot Hossain tears ACL

Ebadot Hossain was hurt during the ODI series against Afghanistan last month, tearing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). Tanzim Sakib took Hossain’s spot for the Asia Cup 2023 lieu of the 29-year-old bowler, who has played for Bangladesh in 12 ODIs since making his 50-over debut last year.

Shakib al Hasan, the ODI captain for Bangladesh, and head coach Chandika Hathurusingha were sad to lose Ebadot Hossain.

At the pre-series news conference in Dhaka on August 26, Shakib had told reporters, “It is very sad that Ebadot is not with us because he was an important part of our team and taking that into consideration it is quite disappointing.”

The bowling attack’s dynamics are altered by Ebadot’s absence. Previously, he would bowl the middle overs so Taskin Ahmed could utilize the fresh ball. It is still unclear how Taskin will fit in that role, although Ebadot’s pace was a key factor in his success in the middle overs.

Earlier in the day, vice-captain Litton Das exit from the Asia Cup 2023 has given a severe blow to Bangladesh. Litton Das, one of Bangladesh’s most reliable batsmen in recent years, did not travel to Sri Lanka with the team on August 27.

Das was supposed to join the team on August 28, but his fever hasn’t gone down, therefore he hasn’t.

Although the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) thought about replacing Das, they decided against doing so until the very last moment. However, according to reports from BCB today, Anamul Haque Bijoy has been named as a replacement and will join as the wicketkeeper batter.

For Bangladesh, Haque has played in 44 ODIs, totaling 1254 runs, including three hundreds. The last time the wicketkeeper featured in an ODI match was against India in 2022.
