Bangladesh cricket team captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz could miss the BAN vs AUS 3rd ODI as he has been hospitalized following the historic win on Thursday. The skipper opted to continue batting in the run-chase in Dhaka despite being hit on the head and vomiting on the field. Bangladesh team physio has now confirmed that Miraz will not be able to take part in the 3rd ODI on June 14.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz hospitalized
The incident occurred in the 34th over of Bangladesh’s run-chase as Mehidy was hit on his helmet by a bouncer from Nathan Ellis. While he went down on his haunches immediately and even vomited on the field, he refused to leave as BAN were on the cusp of victory. Despite a stretcher being brought out and the Bangladesh and Australian team doctors running out to the middle, Mehidy decided to fight on and finished the game for Bangladesh in the next over with a six.
Bangladesh physio Bayjedul Islam Khan informed after the game that Miraz has been hospitalized and will be observed for 24 hours. Additionally, reports stated the all-rounder is out of danger.
“Mehidy Hasan Miraz had a concussion during the match today. He continued to play after being assessed in the middle. We have sent him to the hospital to assess the rest of his signs, and for general observation. He will be there for the next 24 hours,” the Bangladesh physio said.
It took 21 years for Bangladesh to win an ODI against the 6-time Cricket World Cup champions. Two days later, the Tigers had one-upped themselves. Australia managed to score just 187/8 in 42 overs, after getting off to a miserable start (0/3). Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman picked up three wickets each. In response, Bangladesh chased down the target in 35 overs.
