Bad news for DC, after Mitchell Starc, Faf du Plessis backs of out of IPL 2025

Not only was Faf du Plessis the skipper of DC, but in 6 matches this year, he had gone on to score 128 runs, including two fifties.

DC chances of making it to the playoffs for IPL 2025, seem to be going down the drain. After Mitchell Starc expressed his inability to come for the remainder of the tournament, now team’s vice-captain Faf du Plessis has also backed out. The league was abruptly stopped on May 8 due to the military tensions between India and Pakistan, and post that, it is supposed to begin on Saturday now.

No Faf Du Plessis for DC

But without two of their main players, DC, who are in close fifth position in the points table, are in a lurch now. As per a report in ESPNCricinfo, two South Africans, Faf and Donovan Ferreira have decided to stay back. It is important to note that Faf was already sidelined due to an injury, and had played only six matches in the season.

Mitchell Starc Opts Out Too

There he had scored 128 runs at an average of 28, and a strike-rate of 128, including two fifties. Earlier, even Jake Fraser Mcgurk had also opted out of the tournament. If that is not enough, the team had signed Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman, but he is yet to get an NOC from the BCB, and is currently in UAE for a T20I series.

Having said that, Tristan Stubbs will be available for the league stages only and will then travel to England for the WTC final. In short, DC is one of those teams, who are the worst-hit, as far as the foreign players are concerned, that too at a time, when they need their best resources to make it to the playoffs.
