The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have swooped in on a terrific talent. The MS Dhoni-led side has brought in South African Dewald Brevis as a replacement player for Gurjapneet Singh for the remainder of IPL 2025. The 6’3 tall left-arm pacer got injured during the IPL 2025 and will miss the entire season. Brevis, meanwhile, has been signed for an equal amount of Rs 2.20 crore (the same that CSK paid to sign Gurjapneet).
Brevis to CSK—masterstroke in making?
Just recently, the Chennai Super Kings lost their talismanic skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad, due to an elbow injury. While many assumed that CSK might replace Gaikwad with someone like Brevis, instead, they went ahead with Indian youngster Ayush Mhatre. Regardless, Brevis has finally turned up for CSK, who dearly needed a hard-hitting striker at IPL 2025.
With the Super Kings outfit being one of the worst batting units at IPL 2025, Brevis will surely add muscle and X-factor. His recent showing at the SA20 2025 was superb as well. Playing for MI Cape Town, Brevis mustered 291 runs at an immaculate average and strike rate of 48.50 and 184.18.
Young South African sensation Brevis, 21, is set to bring his explosive form to the IPL. With a strike rate of nearly 145 in 81 T20s, Brevis has already showcased his destructive batting skills. Fresh from consistent performances in List A and first-class matches for the Titans, Brevis is poised to inject much-needed firepower into a struggling Chennai Super Kings side.
CSK, currently languishing at the bottom with just two wins, will be banking on Brevis to turn their season around. Next, they go up against arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (in Mumbai on April 20) and who knows if Brevis plays directly against his former side on Sunday?
