Pakistan’s star batter, Babar Azam, is facing one of the toughest phases of his career, with his recent performances coming under heavy scrutiny from both fans and former cricketers. The disappointment of Pakistan’s early exit from the 2025 Champions Trophy only added fuel to the fire. Moreover, Babar Azam now isn’t in Pakistan’s next T20I squad that will lock horns with New Zealand for 5 T20 encounters.
What did Babar Azam’s father say?
Amidst the ongoing backlash, Babar Azam’s father, Azam Siddique, has come forward to defend his son. Expressing his faith in Babar, Siddique took to social media to voice his displeasure over the treatment meted out to the former captain. In an Instagram post, he wrote, “The boss is always right. Despite being part of the ICC’s T20 Team of the Year, he was dropped. It’s fine; he will perform in the National T20 and PSL. Insha Allah, he will make a comeback.”
Siddique did not just stop at defending his son; he also had a few strong words for Babar’s critics, urging former Pakistan cricketers to be mindful of their statements. Without naming names, he emphasized that those who had played in the past should respect the present generation of cricketers and avoid making disrespectful remarks. His words seemed to be directed at former cricketers like Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Hafeez, who have openly criticized Babar’s approach to the modern T20 format.
“If someone responds, they may not be able to tolerate it. You are part of the past and will never play again. What was their performance during their playing days? Take a look at the PCB website—it’s a clear hint for the wise,” he added.
Pakistan’s cricket sensation Babar Azam, widely regarded as a once-in-a-generation talent, surprisingly failed to make an impact in the 2025 Champions Trophy. He managed only 64 and 23 runs against New Zealand and India, respectively, as Pakistan suffered losses in both matches. A washout against Bangladesh in their final group-stage game meant Babar’s tournament ended on a disappointing note.
