It’s certainly not good news for Peshawar Zalmi fans, as the skipper of the camp, Babar Azam, suffered an injury during a training session and was seen limping off the field. The incident occurred just before Zalmi’s opening match against Quetta Gladiators, scheduled for April 12 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. A video of the incident has also gone viral on social media, where Babar can be clearly seen in pain, sparking concern among fans and cricket experts alike. While no official statement has been released by the Zalmi management yet, Babar was reportedly seen walking with discomfort after Wednesday’s net session.
Clearly, the star player is not in form, as seen from his recent exclusion from Pakistan’s squad for the T20I series against New Zealand. However, no one can deny how big a player he is, and many believe this PSL could be a turning point for him. But this injury could certainly become a concern if it forces Babar to miss the first few games.
Bosch dumps Zalmi for IPL riches
This is not the only news coming from the Peshawar Zalmi camp. South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch, picked in the Diamond category, has also withdrawn from the season after being signed by Mumbai Indians in the IPL as a replacement for the injured Lizard Williams. While many felt it was a wise decision, others saw it as a betrayal. Bosch’s switch is being regarded as the first major transfer of the season, with more such moves likely in the coming weeks.
It’s certainly an intense scenario this time around, as for the first time ever, the PSL and IPL schedules have clashed. On one hand, it’s a treat for cricket fans around the world, but on the other, we’re set to witness two major tournaments competing for viewership and popularity.
