Babar Azam the captain no more? PCB indicates big changes after World Cup
Babar Azam may lose captaincy from either one of the formats, as PCB is unimpressed with the way team has performed in World Cup so far

Things are quickly going downhill for Pakistan skipper Babar Azam. After losing three matches on the bounce in the ongoing World Cup, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has now hit the panic button. After the showpiece event is over, the Board is set to make wholesome changes, and on the expected lines Azam may lose captaincy.

Reports are rife that Shaheen Afridi or Mohammad Rizwan may be given captaincy reins after Azam has failed to inspire the team in the World Cup. In the press release, PCB has confirmed it will make changes after the WC. However, the board has also urged the fans to support Azam & Co, as Pakistan still has a chance to make it to the semi-final.

PCB acknowledges the emotions and sentiments of cricket fans following the three consecutive defeats faced by the national team in the ICC World Cup 2023. In this challenging environment, the board administration hopes that the cricketing fraternity and fans will continue to support captain Babar Azam and the entire Pakistan cricket team.

The national team still has four crucial matches remaining in the round-robin stage, and the PCB is optimistic that the team will regroup, overcome the setbacks, and perform positively and effectively in the upcoming fixtures.

Not only as the leader of the team, but Azam has also failed to live up to the expectations with bat in hand. In the five matches that the 29-year-old has played, he has scored only two fifties. Azam has not looked his fluent best while scoring these runs. The press release concluded by saying that the decision would be taken in the best possible interest of the team.

Looking ahead, the board will make decisions in the best interest of Pakistan cricket based on the team’s performances in the World Cup. At present, the PCB encourages fans, former players, and stakeholders to rally behind the team as they strive to make a triumphant comeback in the mega-event.
